Stephanie Beatty (she/her)

American Sign Language Interpreter

Stephanie serves as an American Sign Language Interpreter for ECRT. She holds a BEI advanced certification with medical/mental health and education grades 7-12 endorsements. Stephanie earned her BS in Psychology and her BA in Sign Language Studies (Interpreting Concentration) from Madonna University and her doctorate in Psychology from Walden University. Her graduate studies focused on the intersectionality of Deaf culture and Deaf education in creating equitable experiences for Deaf students in formal education programs. Additionally, she is a freelance interpreter and interpreter trainer and is committed to enhancing the interpreting profession by educating our community regarding the need to create and maintain spaces for interpreters of color.

Stephanie was born and raised in Detroit and, prior to becoming an interpreter, worked in human services (foster care, adoptions, juvenile justice). She enjoys traveling, dining out, going to the spa, and spending time with friends and family. Fun fact: In 2010, Stephanie was the first African American in the state of Michigan to become a certified ASL interpreter under the BEI certification process.
