Reminder message from university leadership on survey related to campus culture and community

March 9, 2026

Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,

We’d like to remind you about an important project that will inform the University of Michigan’s ongoing efforts to create and maintain a respectful campus climate.

The university has contracted with Rankin Climate, an external, independent firm, to administer the Climate Survey Related to Campus Culture and Community. The survey will measure perceptions and experiences of discrimination and harassment based on race, color, and national origin, including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics.

Beginning this week, a random representative sample of students, faculty, and staff across the Ann Arbor, Dearborn, and Flint campuses, including Michigan Medicine, will be invited to take the survey.

If selected as part of the sample, the survey invitation will arrive in your U-M email account:

  • Email from: Rankin Climate
  • Subject line: U-M Climate Survey Re: Culture and Community
  • When: March 11We encourage you to complete the survey if you are asked to participate. Your daily experiences, observations, and perspectives are critical to understanding our campus climate and culture. This survey provides an important opportunity for you to share your voice confidentially and help shape the future of our campus environment. All responses will be anonymous and fully confidential.

Please visit the Climate Survey Related to Campus Culture and Community webpage for more information about the survey.

We are all responsible for contributing to a safe and inclusive environment at U-M. Please join us in supporting this important project.

Sincerely,

Martino Harmon
